Rancapino (Chiclana, 1945) ,His real name is Alonso Núñez Núñez. Grandson of "La Obispa" and brother of the late "Orillo del Puerto". The nickname "Rancapino" goes back to his childhood: "When I was a little boy I was always running around naked and a gypsy guy they used o call "El Mono" always said 'where you going, you look like a pine tree on fire'."
He started out singing at the legendary Venta de Vargas along with Camarón de la Isla with whom he shared a profound friendship, and following the school of Aurelio de Cádiz. Later on he performed at Madrid tablaos and toured France and Japan. Rancapino himself acknowledges that his most important teachers were Caracol and Camarón for the emotional side, and Aurelio de Cádiz for the stylistic side.

In 1977 he won the Enrique el Mellizo prize at the Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco de Córdoba, going on to become a principal figure at flamenco festivals in Andalucía.

The characteristics of his art have been examined by the most important critics and flamencologists. Rancapino is at the top of his career and although his extraordinary talent for singing siguiriyas, soleares and malagueñas is well-known, taranto also forms an important part of his repertoire. The Peña Flamenca El Taranto de Almería awarded him the Lucas López Prize, one of the most prestigious awards of current flamenco.

After more than twenty years without recording, he put out a new recording titled "Rancapino" (Turner Records), in which he is accompanied by the extraordinary guitarist Paco Cepero. On this recording we can once again appreciate his pure and profound singing based on the most traditional sort of flamenco.
